This beaded clutch adapts the elegant design on a British coif—a type of snugly fitting cap—in The Met collection. Crafted between 1575 and 1600, the original linen adornment boasts a floral motif embellished with metal thread and sparkling sequins. Patterns of scrolling vines bearing blooms became popular in late 16th- and early 17th-century England, featuring on men’s and women’s hats, women’s jackets, and textiles.
