Our 100% silk satin pillow features a detail from Basket of Fruit (ca. 1620) by Bartolomeo Cavarozzi (Italian, 1587–1625), also known as the Master of the Acquavella Still Life. This sumptuous work in The Met collection depicts fruit and foliage in a simple basket against a monochrome background, evoking Caravaggio’s (Michelangelo Merisi) (Italian, 1571–1610) similar Basket of Fruit (ca. 1595–96). Cavarozzi was a leading exponent of still-life painting in both Italy and Spain, where he accompanied his patron, the nobleman Giovanni Battista Crescenzi, in 1617–19.
