Send season’s greetings with art holiday cards from The Met.
Say “Happy Holidays!” with our cards featuring “Trotting Cracks” on the Snow (1858), a hand-colored lithograph created by Louis Maurer (American, b. Germany, 1832–1932) and published by Currier & Ives (American, active New York, 1857–1907). Of the 7,000-plus lithographs produced by Nathaniel Currier and James Ives, almost 700 depicted scenes of trotting horses. These images appealed to an avid racing public who wanted inexpensive pictures of their trotting heroes. Many of these equestrian subjects were made by Maurer.
