Attributed to Marco d’Oggiono (Italian, ca. 1467–1524), a close associate of Leonardo da Vinci’s in Milan, the detail on our 100% silk satin pillow is from an enigmatic portrait entitled Girl with Cherries (ca. 1491–95). Richly dressed and wearing a curious half smile, the young woman pictured here is crowned with an ivy wreath and holds a bowl of cherries. The symbolism remains mysterious: it may allude to marriage, but it also suggests a connection with sophisticated literary circles.
