Glackens: Central Park, Winter Holiday Cards

Featured on the face of each card is Central Park, Winter (ca. 1905), a heartwarming winter scene by William James Glackens (American, 1870–1938). This painting in The Met’s American Wing depicts New Yorkers of all ages enjoying a snow-covered Central Park. In 1895, Glackens moved to New York, where he worked as a successful newspaper and magazine illustrator. By 1904 he pivoted to painting, but his eye for character and gesture continued to influence his practice.
