This golden glass tree ornament recalls two ancient limestone pine cones—one Roman, Cypriot, ca. 30 B.C.–A.D.300; the other Cypriot, 3rd–1st century B.C.—in The Met collection. Such objects were inserted into magnificent funerary cippi, which served as tombstones or landmarks.
