A lovely portrait by the celebrated Neoclassical painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (French, 1780–1867) is reproduced on our 100% linen pillow. Pictured is Madame Edmond Cavé (Marie-Élisabeth Blavot, b. 1810), an artist in her own right who regularly exhibited at the esteemed Paris Salon. When Ingres painted her portrait (ca. 1831–34), she was married to one of his pupils, Clément Boulanger (1805–1842). He added the dedication to “Madame Cavé” after she got remarried to the illustrious Edmond Cavé (French, 1794–1852), the inspector and director of the fine arts administration during the reign of King Louis-Philippe (r. 1830–1848).
