The mesmerizing motif on our stylish folding umbrella references a sashiko jacket crafted in 19th-century Japan and housed in The Met collection. Sashiko is a quilting technique that uses a running stitch to reinforce a textile or combine recycled pieces of fabric into a new garment. The skilled embroidery on this robe is dominated by three variations on the pattern of interlocking circles called shippō-tsunagi.
