The opalescent peacock feather motif featured across our tea set, which includes a tin of The Met x Harney & Sons: Favrile Luster Milky Oolong tea, a tea-infusing covered mug, and a tea towel, references a Favrile glass vase (ca. 1900) by Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) in The Met collection. In the early 1890s, the illustrious designer developed a method of blending colors in glass while it was still in a molten state. He called the results “Favrile,” and was duly celebrated for the extraordinary innovation.
