Our stylish mug features decorative details from a late 12th-century column shaft and capital at The Met Cloisters. They stand in the Museum’s serene Saint-Guilhem cloister, which was reconstructed with over 140 fragments from the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert in southern France. The exquisite limestone carvings of narrative senes and intricate plant motifs come from the now-destroyed upper story of the abbey’s cloister.
