Women’s footwear has embraced more variations since 1900 than in the entire previous history of fashion. Balancing function and fantasy, the great designers of the 20th century have created some of the most beautiful shoes ever made, adapting styles from the past with a contemporary sensibility. The Museum’s carefully detailed shoe ornaments capture the charm and grace of the actual shoes, now in the collection of the Museum’s Costume Institute.

The Mixed Flora Platform Sandal Shoe Ornament is based on a pair of Italian shoes (1971) boasting a colorful floral motif. We’ve reinterpreted the original heeled sandals into a stylish hand-painted ornament.
