Our unisex tee features a detail from Queen Abolition (2021) by the esteemed artist, social activist, spoken word poet, and educator, Roberto Lugo (American, b. 1981). Lugo’s formal training as a ceramicist informs the classical sensibility of his decorative motifs—evocative of traditional Asian and European pottery and reimagined with visual elements of modern urban graffiti. Working primarily with porcelain, Lugo subverts the material’s aristocratic associations with hand-painted images that evoke powerful themes of social and racial justice and equity. His creations often include portraits of political, cultural, and historical icons such as Dr. Cornel West, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Sojourner Truth.
