This pen and mechanical pencil set references two remarkable Turkish dishes crafted in the renowned Iznik kilns and now in The Met collection. Our pen adapts the bird-and-flower motif from a colorful dish made around 1575–90; stylized carnations, tulips, and hyacinths, sometimes in combination with birds, were pervasive decorative elements on 16th- and 17th-century Iznik creations. The pencil features the feathery “saz” leaf design popular in Ottoman decoration amid blue flowers taken from a striking plate dated to the third quarter of the 16th century.
