Women’s footwear has embraced more variations since 1900 than in the entire previous history of fashion. Balancing function and fantasy, the great designers of the 20th century have created some of the most beautiful shoes ever made, adapting styles from the past with a contemporary sensibility. The Museum’s carefully detailed shoe ornaments capture the charm and grace of the actual shoes, now in the collection of the Museum’s Costume Institute.
The Roses Platform Sandal Shoe Ornament is based on a pair of stylish American silk sandals from around 1940. The original platforms are adorned with a motif of red roses and black ornamentation, which we’ve translated onto our hand-painted resin ornament.
