A gift of friendship from France to the United States, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi’s (French, 1834–1904) Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor in 1885. That same year, the celebrated New York printmaking firm Currier & Ives (American, 1857–1907) captured the landmark in a grand, aerial vista entitled The Great Bartholdi Statue – Liberty Enlightening the World (1885). Our zip-up hooded sweatshirt features The Met logo on the front and reproduces this hand-colored lithograph in the Museum’s holdings on the back.
