The Met Ancient Near Eastern Tee

Showcasing a selection of three Near Eastern treasures from The Met collection—an Iranian gold plaque with horned lion-griffins (ca. 6th–4th century B.C.), a Syrian basalt relief depicting a winged human-headed lion (ca. 10th?9th century B.C.), and a human-headed winged bull, or lamassu (ca. 883–859 B.C.) from Mesopotamia—our tee pays tribute to the Museum’s celebrated department of ancient Near Eastern art. Over 7,000 works ranging from the 8th millennium B.C. through the centuries just beyond the 7th-century Arab conquests comprise this impressive collection of art and artifacts from an expansive region centered in Mesopotamia.
