William Knit Set

This snuggly knit set brings The Met’s beloved “William” (ca. 1961–1878 B.C.) to life across a beanie, a scarf, and a pair of mittens. The ancient blue-glazed hippopotamus statuette was forged in Egypt’s Middle Kingdom, where it was molded in faience, a ceramic material made from ground quartz. Like William, our blue knitwear is embellished with lotus blossoms and marsh plants, which symbolize rebirth and evoke the hippo’s habitat along the Nile River.
